There are a lot of plants in the fantastic world of Don't Starve. Each one of them have their own unique purpose.
Tree - found nearly everywhere except the trees in the swamp biome do not yield logs when chopped down, cut down with the Axe, drops logs and pinecones and leaves behind a stump that can be dug up with the Shovel yielding one extra log.
Sapling - found in forest and swamp biomes, pick it with your hands, drops 1 twig, can be gathered with the shovel to collect sapling so you may replant elswhere. no fertalizing required to regrow.
Grass - found in forest and prairie biomes, pick it with your hands, drops one grass, can be gathered with a shovel to collect the grass tuft that you may place elsewhere and fertilize with manure so it will regrow.
