The Thulecite Medallion is an item that can be crafted from an unrepaired Ancient Altar. Its purpose is to gauge the current state of the Ruins magical flux . It will glow a reddish color when the magic state is high, and examination of it will provide further details about whether it is getting more magical, less magical, or staying steady. By its color, you can determine when a nightmare is about to start - a periodic event in ruins, when all the statues and the lights begin to glow a red color, and around them, Crawling Nightmares and Nightmarebeaks spawn, the Ruins equivelant to Hallucinations. Unlike normal Crawling Horrors and Terrorbeaks, your sanity does not affect whether or not they can attack or detect you.
