  • The page for MTusk says he flees when chased but is there a good melee strat for killing him? I assume the answer is yes as the page also states how many hits he takes with various weapons. Maybe a noob question, but I'm on my second winter and am set up pretty well for the first time, so I definitely want to take him down but I would rather not start using up the items I have saved for ranged weapons yet.

    • Use Log suit and Football helmet (or better). Id say first get rid of the hounds, luring them away since they are faster then old mctusk. After killing em use freeze staff on him to to him in melee OR use blowdarts . You could also chase him into a corner but its risky and less time efficient.

Overall he is a very annoying mob to kill and deals a lot of damage.

    • I do have the materials to make the staff. Perhaps I will go that route. I didn't think about running him into a corner either though, but I see how that is risky. I'll give it a whirl tonight when I get home from work and post again on how it turns out. Thanks for the reply.

    • No problem, also remember to have full health and something to heal you fast enough, like spider glands at the very least. using freeze staff was the best and safest for me not to mention fastest. Dont spare "expenses" on hunting him down. I once tried to kill him with log suit only and im also not that expierienced, lets just say it nearly didnt end well for me. Good luck!

    • At first, having Wolfgang can make everything easier.Attacking before sunset is effective i think.Kill the hounds first, and then lure the MacTusk away from the camp.Having a walking cane will make it better. When sun sets,MacTusk will start to trying go back to his igloo, probably running to you.You can deal massive damage at this point. If you have a fire staff, you can burn him but i think this will be risky because Tam'o Shanter will burn or if MacTusk is near a forest,a whole forest will burn.(That's why I don't use Fire Staff.)

    • Ok, well, I still have not done the deed. Have some more questions actually. Is it possible to lead him and his hounds to other mobs to assist me in making them meet their demise or is there some kind of reason that tactic does not work on him? Also, to UrEnd who posted above... I will not be using fire to take the chance of burning drops or surrounding area. Too risky for me lol. And you mentioned the walking cane... Can't have the cane without the walrus tusk, which is part of the reason I'm going after him in the first place (unless I was lucky enough to find the cane as a set piece, which I wasn't lol).

    • It is possible but from what i tested it is quite hard to make other mobs vs mac tusk aggro one another so i would not recommend trying - unless you have like 1x20 stack of killer bees that you could just drop at his proximity and run away. I tried mac tusk vs tallbirds and while they by some miracle did attack each other tallbirds are quite dangerous as well, especially if your plan would go the wrong way.

If you ask me... Man up, get football helm, wood armor and ice staff plus heal up to 100% before the engagement. Carry with you some decent healing and perhaps some tooth traps to deploy prior to agro'ing the dogs and just kill them and then him. Ignore wee mac tusk, he is worthless. And ther you go - shouldnt be too hard asuming you wont make some terrible mistake like using near depleted armor/helm/staff.

      Questions? :D

    • Ugh... found him and there is a problem. There are 2 Mac tusks and more than 6 hounds. They stomp me. I'm going to try bringing spider egg sacks and placing them next to the igloo. I also have tallbirds just to the south of his location so I'm going to have one or 2 of them chase me up.

    • 6 hounds is not that much, and ice doggies are the easiest of all - 100 hp and not burning things around, plus i bet u can kite one mac tusk away from another. if you are so afraid tooth trap the crap out of the area for hounds, or get a team of pigs/bunnies.

    • Alright, I took them all out... only got one blue gem though :( Thanks for the advice. Ice staff worked out well combined with tentacle spike. 3 hits for tusky and 2 for each hound. I'm sure I will be posting more as I start to do the more challenging things in the game.

    • Does MacTusk only use blow darts, or will he sometimes use sleep darts? I feel like it's only blow darts, but I'm not sure.

    • The most effective method to killing him is spider eggs. Plant them early summer and return late winter for a ton of tooth's and tam o shanters.

If you need the meat, or need to melee him from lack of eggs, than get some pigs as allies and use them to distract him whilst you attack. I find a spear/ham bat will kill him easily.

Don't use lure plants though, they will kill them and eat all the loot.

    • Hah, I just killed him by running towards him until he gave up and ran into my Tentacle Spike. Killed 2 in one day like this.
