  • Just a quick reminder:

Replying to old article comments is not encouraged, but it is not prohibited nor will it lead to the deletion of comment as per the Rules.

    Cheers,

    • Alright. I did delete one that was offensive, (which contained swear). From now on I shall only remind people not to do so. PS: Though I did not delete those comments because they were old. I did so because I see they did not contribute to much, but I shall leave them be just the same.

    • yea just only remove and warn profanity or spam, otherwise there's nothing much we can do.

    • Alright, I'll keep that mindset then. :)

    • Lol you don't know how many dirty jokes hide in the comments. :P

        Loading editor
    • Eh, dirty jokes... so long they're not explicit with the kind of the single letter words... Or if people don't get too annoyed...

I mean, if I were to look at all the old comments after these profanities I'd have to review the whole history of the Wiki. That doesn't sound very productive IMO. But if I were only to policy the new ones, then I might be able to do some work on the articles and keep tabs on what is being newly produced...

    • Yea that was true in the past, but the situation has improved a lot now.

One of the biggest concerns of comment deletion is that you may scare off some new or inexperienced users. Some users may just have fun and have no intention to destory the integrity of wiki.

Also, according to Wikipedia and Wikia guidelines, we should assume people in good faith when we judge them.

As a result, it's really hard for us to do anything unless it's obvious.

    • Its not serious, rude comments are rare. The mayority of irrelevant comments, are the ones than don't make any sense. But 2 Discussion mod can handle it.

    • I agree. Much of what we see here are small, disconnected comments. Therefore, were I to delete all such comments I might as well forbid people to comment.

Which is why I do not see any reason to keep deleting comments. Only those which significantly disturb the rules (Profanities, serious spam, gratuitous rudeness, so on, so on.) Therefore, I shall restraint my self to that which might disturb people and keep reminding people to avoid replying to comments older than 2 weeks, and absolutely try to avoid to reply to comments older than a month.

    • Those irrelevant comments can be deleted, if and only if:

      • causing public nuisance - impact the integrity of wiki.
      • causing private nusiance as per the request from users involved.
