Shell Bells are Items exclusive to Don't Starve Together, introduced in the Return of Them updates. They can be found naturally on the ground of Hermit Island and in Bundles of Thanks. They are dropped by the Crab King and when Shell Clusters are mined.

They emit a music note when a player approaches. The note can be changed by hitting the shell. Each type (soprano, alto, baritone) plays in a different octave. The musical notes played will cheer up Farm Plants. This can be used to make cheering up plants automated.

They can be hammered to drop 1 Broken Shell with a 30% chance for a second one. After hitting it with a Hammer, a small creature will run out of the shell, which cannot be interacted with.

Further Usage[]

In total, there are three types of Shell Bells, divided by sound: soprano, alto and baritone. Each of them makes its own unique sound when lying on the ground and the character passes by or uses it. Raises the note by 1 step when used (e.g. from C to C#). Each type has 3 skins, which are no different from each other except for the appearance.

Shell Bells can be used to bring songs from the real world into the game. The c_shellsfromtable() command summons a line of Shell Bells. If you run through it, you will hear the main theme of the game. Transferring music is carried out according to the following scheme:

Only 3 octaves Baritone - octave 3 (English), small octave, Alto - octave 4 (English), first octave (most notes are located in this one), Soprano - octave 5 (English), second octave. Two names were given this is due to the fact that notes are called slightly differently in different sources. The Insight (show me+) mod helps to find out what note the shell has now, Wigfrid can also find out. It is worth using the Geometric Placement mod to arrange the shells at a certain distance from each other. Most likely it is determined "by touch". The speed of the music from the hands depends on what speed modifications you use: cane, magic light, paving stones. There are 12 notes in total, 7 white and 5 black. The # sign on a note indicates a sharp, which raises the tone of the note by a semitone. The sign b - Bimol (the opposite of a sharp, lowers the tone of a note by half a tone) and is absent in the game. Beam and sharp signs lead to black notes. Note designation:

Nots
C D E F G A B
1 3 5 6 8 10 12

C D E F G A B - is the note name. 1 3 5 6 8 10 12 - is a serial number out of 12. Other numbers are sharp notes (black notes). It is important to remember that the octave starts with C, not A. The gallery below shows the translation of the first 15 notes of megalovania.

The first note is Do (C in English). It is located in the cribble clef on the additional bottom line. The notes of the third act are in the bass clef.

Placeholder Trivia[]

  • Shell Bells were introduced in the She Sells Sea Shells update.
  • When trying to make specific tunes, Wigfrid is a wise character choice, as she is the only one who can tell what note each shell will play.
