Wilson Shovel

Wilson holding a Shovel

The Shovel is a tool which can be used to dig up plants and other objects in the world or as a weapon. It requires 2 Twigs and 2 Flint to craft, and a Science Machine to prototype.

Usage

To use the Shovel to dig up a plant simply click the Shovel on the plant or equip it from the belt by right-clicking it. This tool can also be used as a weapon in the same way. Each use consumes 4% of the item's durability, meaning it can be used 25 times before breaking.

Shovels can dig up plants such as Berry Bushes, Grass and Saplings so that they can be replanted in a more desirable location (usually closer to base camp). Once dug up, these plants become inventory items which stack to 10. Although they can be replanted, plants also make excellent fuel for campfires; one will burn in a Fire Pit for an entire night and most of dusk (except perhaps in the middle of winter). Grass and Berry Bushes require Fertilizers to start growing again once they have been dug up; Saplings do not.

Shovels can also uproot Tree Stumps for 1 Log, regardless of the size of the original tree. They can dig up Rabbit Holes, at the cost of permanently robbing the rabbits of a home. Additionally, the Shovel can be used to dig up Graves at a slight cost to Sanity (-10) to acquire Gravedigger Items, Amulets, and Gems. Digging a grave requires that the LMB or spacebar be held down while digging.
