[[Meats]] dropped into the water have a chance to spawn Sea Hounds in any part of the ocean. The probability of this happening is based on the hunger value of the item dropped into the sea. Beware, dropping large stacks of meat items into the water can easily cause the player to be overwhelmed by multiple Sea Hounds. The meat does not have to be dropped by the player themselves. A Sea Hound is a hostile Mob found in the Shipwrecked DLC. They are the Ocean's equivalent to Hounds. If a Hound attack would occur and the player is at Sea, Sea Hounds will attack instead. Because they lose interest in the player easily, like Hounds, they may get distributed in the ocean and later re-encountered.
They may be encountered alone at sea, or attack the player in large packs while they are sailing. Prior to the attack, the player may comment on their approach and the music will change.
Meats dropped into the water have a chance to spawn Sea Hounds in any part of the ocean. The probability of this happening is based on the hunger value of the item dropped into the sea. Beware, dropping large stacks of meat items into the water can easily cause the player to be overwhelmed by multiple Sea Hounds. The meat does not have to be dropped by the player themselves. Monster Meat and Shark Fins will not trigger a hound attack this way.
Fishing in Shoals has a 20% chance to trigger a Sea Hound attack.
Fighting Strategy
Below is the number of hits it takes with each weapon to kill a Sea Hound when playing with characters with a default damage modifier. The Weather Pain is not included due to the random nature of its projectile.

It takes 2 blasts to freeze a Sea Hound with an Ice Staff. It takes 3 Sleep Darts to put Sea Hound to sleep.
Trivia
- When Sea Hounds are approaching, Wilson may comment, "I'm going to need a bigger boat...." This is a reference to the movie Jaws, in which a lead character says, "We're gonna need a bigger boat," while being stalked by a shark.
- A Cargo boat may randomly be found in sea containing some loot, but jumping on the boat will trigger a Sea Hound attack.
