Red Hounds (also referred to as Flame Hounds or Hell Hounds) are the rare counterpart of Hounds. Flame Hounds are weaker than Hounds, but their attacks set their target on fire. Upon death, flame hounds explode. This combustion can result in the burning of flammable nearby objects.

Like normal hounds, they take two blasts from the Ice Staff to be frozen. When killed, Red Hounds sometimes drop a Red Gem that can be used to craft an Amulet, Night Light or a Fire Staff.

Red Hounds do not spawn on their own, but have a chance to spawn instead of a regular Hound during the Hound attacks. None will spawn in first day attacks, but the chance will increase up to half the time after 100 days (see Hound#Spawning for details). Sometimes, players may see Red Hounds surrounding the Fire Staff. If the Fire Staff is picked, all Hounds will wake up and chase after the player.
