Rain is a random weather, more likely during Spring season. The start of rain can be predicted with Rainometer. Precipitation is approximately a sine wave, light at the beginning and end, heavy in the middle. Instead of rain during the Winter, it will snow, except during first and last days of winter.
Effects[]
Player and The World gains up to 1 Wetness per second, scaling with precipitation rate.
There may have Lightning. Frog Rain may happen.
Birds spawn 4 times faster during rain.
Fuel is consumed faster, scaling with precipitation rate):
- Fire Pit up to 200% faster
- Campfire up to 250% faster
- Torch up to 150% faster
- Willow's Lighter up to 100% faster
Don't Starve Single Player[]
Player's will slowly decrease by up to 5 points (depending on precipitation rate) every minute when it is raining. This can be avoided by equipping an Umbrella or a Pretty Parasol. only.
Crops grow 300% faster.
Mushrooms that have already been picked regrows during rains
Moisture[]
This section is accurate for .
The weather on the surface and cave is separate. The surface may be raining while the cave is not.
The world accumulates moisture, from 0 to the season default moisture maximum gain rate. Day 2 of winter is specially coded to 50.
Rain happens when moisture reaches its ceiling. This ceiling is uniformly distributed within its range, generated either at the start of world or the end of a rain. This ceiling depends on the season when it is generated.
The rain consumes between 1 and the peak precipitation rate moisture per second. The consumption is approximately a sine wave, light at the beginning and end, heavy in the middle. This moisture consumption translate to the heaviness of the rain. The world does not gain moisture from the default moisture gain rate while the world is raining.
The rain stops when the world's moisture drops to the moisture floor. The moisture floor is calculated by, moisture floor multiplier*moisture ceiling*(1 to 3), at the start of the rain. The world then gain moisture for the next rain.
Season | Default moisture maximum gain rate
(moisture per second) |
Moisture ceiling | Peak precipitation rate | Moisture floor multiplier |
---|---|---|---|---|
Autumn | 1 | 3840-7680 | 1-6.6 | 0.25 |
Winter | 1 | 1440-2880 | 1-8 | 0.25 |
Spring | 3.75 | 2640-5280 | 5-10 | 0.0625 |
Summer | 0.5 | 6240-12480 | 1 | 0.375 |
500 moisture can be added with each use of Telelocator Staff. Rain can be forcibly started, raising the moisture to its ceiling through Mosling or Practical Rain Rituals.
Trivia[]
- Rain was added in the A Little Rain Must Fall update. Snow, another form of precipitation, came in the prior update, Winter.
Bugs[]
- Occasionally rain will not stop but continue in a state of light drizzle. Wetness will remain at 1 and meat will not dry on racks. Waiting until winter or triggering a set piece that causes a season change might fix the issue. Sleeping in a tent, exiting and reloading, and entering and exiting caves does not appear to fix the problem.
