Great. Now they have fire.

Maxwell

The Pug Torch is a structure found in a Pug Fortress or beside the Pug King in Adventure and Sandbox Mode. It is protected by Guardian Pugs. It can light up an area and spawns a Guardian Pug 3 days after the previous one has died. If any pug guarding the torch is still alive, that pug will occasionally run back to the torch and refuel it. If the guardian pug has died its torch will eventually burn out. Other Guardian Pugs will not refuel a Pug Torch that is not their own. If all the Guardian Pugs have died the torches will go out.

The Pug Torch can't be crafted, and can only be destroyed by a Hammer, GunpowderDeerclops, Wolfgang's manly strength or when gnawed while Woodie's Werebeaver form. If destroyed while lit, it yields 4 Ash, but will yield 3 Logs and 1 Manure when it is burnt out. However, it smells disgusting when broken after the fire dies out. Like burning poop. Therefore, it is recommended to deconstruct the Pug Torch when its fire has gone, but wear a gas mask.

Tips

  • It is not recommended to visit Pug Torches during a Full Moon as Guardian Pugs will turn into Werepugs.
  • Players may want to take Spider Queen or Deerclops to the Pug Torch, as Guardian Pugs nearby may help fight against those hostile monsters. However, caution should be employed when doing this, as the Deerclops can and will destroy the torches.
  • If you can, try and kill the guardian pug then wall off the pug torch. When the guardian pug respawns he will refuel the fire by default and will be unable to reach the player due to the walls, giving infinite light. It is advised to camp away from the torch on full moons though, to avoid when the guardian transforms.

Trivia

  • Destroying an unlit Pug Torch yields Manure, which suggests that the Guardian Pugs refuel them with their own droppings.
  • Pug Torches resemble and are likely inspired by totem poles, which are trees that have been carved with figures and designs, meant to represent important events, legends, or families.
  • If a third-party software is used to spawn a Pug Torch, it will not immediately spawn with its corresponding Guardian Pug, unlike Pug Houses.
