Don't see a whole lotta use for these.

Petals are a Vegetable Food Item obtained by picking Flowers, which are commonly found in Grassland Biomes. They restore 5 Sanity when picked and 1 Health point when eaten. Like other vegetables, they can be fed to Pigs to produce Manure. No variant of petals may be used in a Crock Pot.

Petals can be used to craft the Garland, a Headwear item which restores Sanity over time, the Whirly Fan which slows overheating when walking, and the Pretty Parasol which offers a little bit of rain protection. Petals are also used to decorate Wendy's Sisturn to activate its +25 Sanity / min aura, and increase the regeneration rate of Abigail's health pool.

Dark Petals[]

Evil Flowers yield Dark Petals when picked, for a cost of 5 sanity. A Tumbleweed has a 0.2% chance to have Dark Petals as any one of it's 3 items. In Don't Starve icon and Reign of Giants icon, Dark Petals can be obtained by trading trinkets and meats at the Sunken Boat. A Deconstruction Staff can be used on Nightmare Fuel (presumably dropped by a shadow creature and not constructed from Dark Petals) to yield Dark Petals, but this costs 1/4 Green Gem, 1/2 a Nightmare Fuel, and 20 sanity.

Dark Petals drain 5 Sanity points when eaten (not affected by freshness). 4 can be used to craft one Nightmare Fuel at a Prestihatitator. During the Hallowed Nights event in Don't Starve Together icon, one is required to craft the Psychosis Experiment.

Foliage[]

Foliage is a Vegetable Food Item obtained by picking a Fern. Similar to Petals, Foliage can be eaten to restore 1 Health or used as fuel in a Campfire or Fire Pit. They can also be crafted into a Potted Fern.

In the Reign of Giants DLC, Tumbleweeds may drop Petals, Dark Petals, or Foliage when harvested.

In the Shipwrecked DLC, Petals are used to craft Tropical Parasols and Floral Shirts. There also is a small chance to obtain them while spending Dubloons at the Slot Machine.

In the Hamlet DLC, Petals can be bought for 1 Oinc at the Curly Tails Mud Spa in the Pig City. Foliage can be used as a crock pot ingredient, and counts as a Vegetable.

In Don't Starve Together, Petals can also be acquired by picking Roses. They are required to craft the Whirly Fan and Willow's Lighter. Gift Wraps are available to craft during the time of the Winter's Feast event.

Succulents can be used to craft a Potted Succulent.

Ghost Players have 50% of turning Petals into Evil Petals from haunting them.

Placeholder Trivia[]

Foliage old

Old Foliage icon.

  • Dark Petals were added in A Little Rain Must Fall update.
  • Foliage used to be green when it was implemented in the It's not a Rock! update.
    • Wilson's quote for Foliage was not changed in the update and still refers them as "Some leafy greens".
      • Wendy remarks this in DST with her quote for Ferns: "Wilson calls them 'greens'... but they're purple...".
  • Petals used to be required to craft a Floral Shirt in the Reign of Giants DLC. It was later changed to require Cactus Flowers instead.
    • However, in Shipwrecked worlds, Petals are used once again to replace Cactus Flowers, as they cannot be easily obtained.
  • Succulents were added in the Against the Grain update.
