An Ornate Chest is a Structure found in the Labyrinth biome of the Ruins. Ornate Chests are usually surrounded by Dangling Depth Dweller webbing.

Opening an Ornate Chest triggers a random effect such as spawning Dangling Depth Dwellers/Terrorbeaks, raising or lowering Health/Hunger/Sanity, or affecting the durability of inventory items. The character will often state, "It's a trap!".

Ornate Chests do not drop anything when destroyed.

A Large Ornate Chest spawns when the Ancient Guardian is killed. This version contains substantially more loot than the smaller version. There are 3-6 random items in the Large Ornate Chest. There will always be an Ancient Key in the Large Ornate Chest in Don't Starve Together.

Items drop from Large Ornate Chest with durability will have full durability.

In the Shipwrecked DLC, Ornate Chests have a chance to randomly be dug in X Marks the Spot locations, with no items in it.

Trivia

• The name "pandoraschest" is a reference to Pandora's Box, a box that contained all the evils in the world. This is referring to how the chest can spawn Terrorbeaks and Dangling Depth Dwellers.
