The Oar is a craftable Item in the Seafaring Filter, exclusive to Don't Starve Together, and introduced in Return of Them. It requires a Log to craft. An Oar can be used to move a Boat across the Ocean.

If used inconsistently (too little time between uses), the player will be splashed with water and gain 9 Wetness Meter, while the Oar will lose an amount of durability that is equivalent to 25 uses.

The Driftwood Oar can also be crafted in the Seafaring Filter. It requires a Driftwood Piece to craft instead of a Log. Driftwood Oars only last for 400 uses but apply 1.66 times the force of a regular Oar to the Boat with each use.

Failing at rowing with a Driftwood Oar will also increase the player's Wetness by 9 Wetness Meter and reduce its durability by 25 uses.

Placeholder Trivia[]

  • Both types of Oars were introduced in the Turn of Tides update.
  • A worn Pirate's Bandana effectively doubles any oars' durability when rowing.
  • A Battle Paddle can also serve as an Oar, at 500 uses (5 uses spent when attacking), 2 times the force of a regular Oar and a surprising 51 damage.
  • A Malbatross Bill is arguably the best Oar, at 1500 uses, 2.66 times the force of a regular Oar and losing a measly 6 uses of durability upon inconsistently rowing. However, it's still significantly less damaging than a Battle Paddle (27.2 to 51, that is, Axe to Tentacle Spike).
  • Oars were moved from the Think Tank to always available in the March 2022 QoL update.
