However there is a grey area.
Is swearing completely forbidden, or is it permittable to the extent that does not accuse of personal attack and impact the integrity of the wiki? The scope is unclear, and according to several popular wiki sites, they have mixed opinion on this issue. In Wikia Community Centeal, the policy tends not to intervene bad language as long as such content is not offensive nor does it generate hate and discrimimatiom.
However this approach should be accommodated with the context of Don't Starve Wiki. Don't Starve community includes a larger proportion of young players. Are they capable of handling offensive languages? However even offensive languages may not be offensive depending on the context.
In my humble opinion, swearing is only forbidden, if and only if,
impacts the integrity of wiki; or
personal attack or insult; or
use repetitively in a discussion where reasonable people would feel the negativity; or
communicates with a young-aged user;
What is your opinion? I hope administrators can reach a consensus over this matter. Thank you.
Hey Mentalist! I personally favor that no swearing should be allowed. Granted, I think there are different levels. "Damn", "Crap", "Hell", etc... are usually fine by most wiki's standards. Anything stronger should probably not be allowed, especially if it's directed towards another user.
That's usually the policy we have on Community Central (where I admin), and it seems to work.
Hi, I'd just like to point out that swearing such as the words you gave a example of Josephyr, "Darn, Crap, Hell" Actually occur in the game, the Sewing Kit is a example, Wilsons examination quote is "Darn it, Darn it to all Heck"
(i rilly think that kind of swearing should be allowed just wanted to say maybe this case is closed sorry for disturberino)
This is a very old discussion, and the policy has been put already, but I'll clarify. Also, Wilson's quote is actually also a pun on the swear.
While those 3 examples Josephyr mentioned are present in the game (Willow's quote on Deerclops comes into mind), they are not that strong, so it doesn't really matter. The game's cartoonish and cute artstyle means that it's suitable for young ages, with players as young as 10 years or so not being uncommon, so the wiki needs to stay clean of strong language, because you never know if the one viewing it is an adult or a 7 year old child.
