Lake | Don't Starve Wiki

The Lake is a large body of water that spawns in it's own Desert Set Piece called the Oasis.

During any Season other than Summer, the lake will be dry and unusable. The player can walk over it during this time.

During Summer the lake will fill up and there is an option to fish in them. Using a Fishing Rod, Fish and Crumpled Packages can be caught at any time of day. Similar it's smaller counterpart, Ponds, it has a limit on Fish or Packages. There are 10 Fish or Packages, and one more will be added into the pond every 160 seconds if the current count is less than ten. The chance of getting a Fish is 40%, and getting a Package is 60%.

During Night, The Lake will light up with Firefly-like lights, provinding enough light to ward off Charlie.

Tips

Making a small outpost near the Oasis can be benefitial as players will be staying at the lake for long periods of times to fish out the various rare Blueprints only obtainable through Crumpled Packages, which are only obtainable through the Lake.
Basing around the oasis area in general is also good, because wildfires do not spawn there, and it is more cool.

Trivia

The Lake was added in the Against The Grain update.
