The Howlitzer is a Ranged Weapon exclusive to Don't Starve Together, introduced in the From Beyond updates. It can be crafted with 1 full Spark Ark, 3 Brightshade Husks, 3 Pure Brilliances, and 3 Moon Rocks at the Brightsmithy. Like all Brightsmithy items, it cannot be prototyped.

Although the Howlitzer has an appearance and attack animation of a Dart, it actually works like Walter's Trusty Slingshot, having an empty slot that can hold Hound's Teeth as ammo. When using the Howlitzer, one Hound's Tooth will be used for each shot. The Howlitzer cannot be used without ammo.

Prototype Tips[]

  • Due to its great range, damage, and infinite uses as long as Hound's Teeth are available, this item is the best ranged weapon once obtained.
  • By the time this item becomes available, which is after the defeat of Celestial Champion and Lunar Rift activation, the player should have large amounts of Hound's Teeth lying around, ready for use as ammunition.
    • Even in the situation where there are no Hound's Teeth to use as ammo, the player can simply go after a Possessed Varg, gaining considerable amounts of Hound's Teeth (from its summoned Hounds) and also a Spark Ark, as after the player defeats the three mutated bosses (Armored Bearger, Crystal Deerclops and Possessed Varg) at least one time each, Wagstaff will grant a Spark Arc for each following defeat.
    • If the player is playing on Endless mode as Wilson and has the Transmute Icky III skill unlocked, obtaining ammo for the Howlitzer becomes extremely easy, as the player can kill themselves, revive via the Florid Postern/Celestial Portal, then turn the Bone Shards obtained from their corpse into Hound's Teeth.
    • Alternatively, utilizing a trapped Varg can make amassing large amounts of Hound's Teeth a mostly automated process.

Placeholder Trivia[]

  • The Howlitzer was introduced in the Host of Horrors update.
  • Its name, Howlitzer, is a portmanteau of the words 'Howitzer', a type of artillery, and 'Howl'.
