Hay Fever is a mechanic introduced in the Lush Season of the Hamlet DLC. The effect will start 1–2 days upon the turn of the season and end on the second day of the Temperate Season, both changes are indicated by a character quote. When the player is first beginning to feel the effects of Hay Fever, the edges of the screen will begin flickering, getting brighter over time and revealing a yellowish-red pattern of leaves and flowers. After approximately 10-40 seconds, this pattern will creep toward the center of the screen, and upon reaching the center the player will sneeze, often (70% chance) twice in a row. Sneezes stun the player briefly, drain 3 Sanity per sneeze and cause 0–4 items to fall out of the player's Inventory per sneeze. The Werebeaver and Wormwood are immune to Hay Fever.
Ways to negate Hay Fever include:
- Wearing a Gas Mask or Particulate Purifier.
- Eating (raw or cooked) Seed Pods (aka Tea Seed), Nettles, Meated Nettles or Nettle Rolls.
- Being near a working Oscillating Fan.
- Turning on Living Artifact.
- Travelling to another world via the Skyworthy.
Tips[]
- Wigfrid is unable to eat Seed Pods, Nettles or Nettle Rolls, but can still eat Meated Nettles during the Lush Season to avoid hay fever.
- Utilizing nothing but raw Nettles the player will need to amass 29 of them to sustain each Lush Season. In actual fact this number is slightly lower due to the slight delay of Hay Fever's effects.
- Utilizing Nettle Rolls the player will need to amass 24 raw Nettles exactly to sustain each Lush Season.
- Utilizing nothing but raw Seed Pods the player will need to amass 96 of them to sustain each Lush Season. In actual fact this number is slightly lower due to the slight delay of Hay Fever's effects.
- Utilizing nothing but cooked Seed Pods the player will need to amass 48 of them to sustain each Lush Season. In actual fact this number is slightly lower due to the slight delay of Hay Fever's effects.
