Food items and structures range in a degree of their necessity. While Crock Pot is suggested to be built (often more than one) as early as possible to last long making it essential, other items such as Ice Box or Drying Rack help in survival a lot, making them very useful although not as essential.

In the Reign of Giants DLC, the player can craft Bucket-o-poops in the Food Tab.
In the Shipwrecked DLC, Mussel Sticks were added to the Food Tab. In the beta branch, Fish Farms and Mussel Beds are also craftable in this tab.
Don't Starve Together
In Don't Starve Together, the players can craft Mushroom Planters in the Food Tab.
