The Fashion Melon is a wearable Dress Item in the Reign of Giants DLC. It requires 1 Watermelon and 3 Twigs to craft and a Science Machine to prototype.

It grants 120 points of protection from Overheating, provides a cooling effect of 55°, and will drain the player's Sanity by 2 points per minute. Despite providing some protection from Rain, the Fashion Melon will gradually increase the player's Wetness up to a maximum of 33. The Fashion Melon does not have a durability, but instead rots after 3 days, similar to the Ham Bat, Garland, and Ice Cube.

Wearing it retains your current wetness level if at 33 or above, regardless of world temperature. Although nearby sources of heat (Fire, Magma, etc) will still decrease Wetness.

Wearing the Fashion Melon while playing with WX-78 will cause the player to take damage periodically.

Prototype Tips[]

  • Wurt can make the most effective use of the Fashion Melon during the Summer, as she is only affected by Wetness' temperature effects, her sanity increase from holding live Fish outweights the Fashion Melon's decrease, and she can get to 100 Wetness by jumping off a Boat's plank twice with no downsides (then using Fashion Melon to retain said Wetness). The hat can thus be an alternative for those who didn't catch/kept an Ice Bream from Winter, as Watermelons are Spring/Summer crops.
