Dumbbells are items crafted by Wolfgang and can only be held by him. They can be used as weapons or can be lifted to fill up Wolfgang's Mightiness Meter each time he lifts them, depending on his current strength. Wolfgang does 1 lift per second. Attacking using a Dumbbell will have the effects as lifting it 0.5 times, and Mighty Wolfgang can throw the Dumbbells, causing damage to targets in a small radius. Melee attacking costs 2 uses of the Dumbbell, and throwing cost 10 uses. While holding out any Dumbbell and running, Mightiness drain will be paused, making managing your Might much easier.
The Dumbbell is the most basic of the Dumbbells, and is the one Wolfgang starts with. It increases 3 Mightiness points when Wimpy and normal, and 1.5 when Mighty.
The Marbell is the upgraded version of the Golden Dumbbell, and was added in the March 2022 QoL update. It increases 5 Mightiness points when Wimpy and normal, and 3 when Mighty, at a cost of reducing movement speed by 10% while equipped when not Mighty.
Gembell[]
“I'll conquer this weight with the power of-- ACK! My spine!!”
When thrown, a fire will erupt where it has landed lighting everything around it on fire, both structures and mobs alike. It always increases 5 Mightiness points regardless of Wolfgang's current form.
When thrown, it will freeze surrounding Mobs for the equivalent of two Ice Staff blasts. It always increases 5 Mightiness points regardless of Wolfgang's current form.
The Thermbell absorbs heat and cold, if not used to lift it is completely identical to a Thermal Stone. It has the basic dumbbell effictiveness, increasing 3 Mightiness points when Wimpy and normal, and 1.5 when Mighty.
Tips[]
As the Dumbbell is very inefficient, it could be used to keep Wolfgang's Mightiness from dropping until a better source of Mightiness is acquired.
Due to the Golden Dumbbell's overall cheapness, it can easily replace the Dumbbell in the early-game. However, as the Golden Dumbbell only has higher lifting efficiency compared to a Dumbbell when Wolfgang is Wimpy (5 instead of 3 Mightiness per lift only in that form), this upgrade may be unnecessary if the player never goes Wimpy.
The Marbell increases mightiness at quite a quick rate. If you can find marble it's a viable alternative to the Mighty Gym that doesn't require gems. Full 100 mightiness can be reached in around 30 seconds starting at 0.
Dumbbells can make for very efficient crowd-clearing weapons when thrown, albeit at the cost of durability. This can be effective against hordes of Splumonkeys in the Ruins during the Nightmare Cycle.
Wolfgang players can equip multiple Icebells and continually throw them at Crab King, permanently stunning him and easily cheesing him this way with enough time and dumbbells.
Trivia[]
The Dumbbell's crafting description "Sticks and stones make muscles honed." is a reference to the children's rhyme "Sticks and Stones". The rhyme is used as a defense against name-calling and verbal bullying, intended to increase resiliency, avoid physical retaliation and to remain calm and good-living. The full rhyme is usually a variant of: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words shall never hurt me."
Despite being heavy weights, they don't sink when dropped on water.
However, it makes sense for the Gembell as Gems don't sink in water.
