–Wurt
The Crabby Hermit, or Pearl, is a Mob exclusive to Don't Starve Together, introduced in Return of Them. She can be found on the Hermit Island.
Becoming friends with the Crabby Hermit is the only way to acquire Pearl's Pearl which is a critical part of the long chain of events necessary to summon the Celestial Champion. Players help the Crabby Hermit in various ways to increase friendship. Each time her friendship level increases, she drops Bundles of Thanks (see below) or offers increased access to the Bottle Exchange Filter. She is immune to all damage.
Behavior[]
The Crabby Hermit goes out of the Hermit Home during the day. She roams her island fishing, harvesting, and offering crabby comments. As friendship increases, her tone softens. In worlds where daytime is turned off, she will roam her island regardless of the time of day.
Friendship[]
Completing various acts of service for the Crabby Hermit makes her more friendly. Friendship level 1 grants access to the Bottle Exchange Filter when a player clicks on the Crabby Hermit. New crafting recipes are unlocked at friendship levels 3, 6, 8, and 9. She drops a Bundle of Thanks at other levels. She also drops a Bundle of Thanks when certain tasks are repeated, though repeating a task does not advance her friendship level. When all three of the Hermit Home upgrades are completed, plus any 7 of the other tasks below, she will award the player with Pearl's Pearl.
Some tasks can be repeated for extra Bundles of Thanks (and duplicate adverts), but friendship points are only granted the first time a task is completed. Friendship points remain even if players take back their gifts after the point is earned.
Here are all the ways to earn friendship points:
- Tasks completed on (or around) Hermit Island:
- Upgrading the Hermit Home. Three upgrades are available for a total of 3 points.
- Drying 6 Food items simultaneously. The Bull Kelp Stalks on her island can be dried into Kelp Fronds for an easy first point.
- Planting 10 Flowers. Once this task is completed, Pearl's Bundles of Thanks will include honey.
- Planting and Fertilizing 8 Berry Bushes or Juicy Berry Bushes.
- Removing all Underwater Salvageables around the Island.
- Killing the Meat Bulb (Lureplant) that appears at the beginning of spring. A Lureplant planted on Hermit Island by the player cannot be killed for a friendship point.
- Building a Wooden Chair (when Pearl sits on it). Pearl gives a blueprint for this chair after a Replica Relic Chair is built on the island. The Wooden Chair can then be crafted at a Sawhorse.
- Gifts given to Pearl:
- A Pretty Parasol, Umbrella or Eyebrella, but only when it's Raining.
- An insulated chest-slot item when Snow is falling such as the Breezy Vest, Puffy Vest, Dapper Vest, or Rain Coat. Head slot clothing doesn't count.
- A Flower Salad.
- A heavy Fallounder. Pearl awards the player an Advert for the Stupefying Lure in return.
- A heavy Bloomfin Tuna. Pearl awards an advert for the Rainy Day Lure.
- A heavy Scorching Sunfish. Pearl awards an advert for the Heavy Weighted Lure.
- A heavy Ice Bream. Pearl awards an advert for the Snow Day Lure.
- 5 heavy Ocean Fish, excluding the four seasonal fish.
An Ocean Fish is heavy if it's in the upper 70% of its Weight range. Heavy fishes produce an extra examination quote when weighed with a Pocket Scale. The player can also offer all fish to Pearl and she will rudely return any that are underweight. A Heavy Weighted Lure will only attract the heavy fishes within a shoal, saving the player time catching and weighing all of the fish. A Tin Fishing Bin will keep all Ocean fishes fresh until they can be shown to Pearl.
To finish Pearl's quests one will need to bring many of the following resources:
- 10 Cookie Cutter Shells
- 12 Boards (10 for the home upgrade, 2 for the Pinchin' Winch)
- 1 Firefly
- 10 Marbles
- 6 Cut Stone (5 for the home upgrade, 1 for the Pinchin' Winch)
- 3 Light bulbs
- 10 Moon Rocks
- 7 Ropes (5 for the home upgrade, 2 for the Pinchin' Winch)
- 5 Carpeted Flooring
- 1 Empty Bottle
- 10 Butterflies (or 1 butterfly and a Bug Net with at least 9 uses left to catch more butterflies on the island once you plant the flower).
- 8 Berry Bushes
- 8 Fertilizer
- 1 rain protection item while it's raining (tip: the player can pick the flowers they planted to craft a Pretty Parasol as soon as it starts to rain)
- 1 body insulation item while it's snowing
- Any weapon or tool to destroy the Lureplant
The color of the Crabby Hermit's speech goes from light pink at level 1, to magenta at level 4 and light purple at level 8. Players begin to see her as Pearl and her Hermit Home as Pearl's Place at level 8. As she gets friendlier, she becomes more likely to dance, particularly when a player performs the dance emote.

Trivia[]
- The Crabby Hermit and the Bundle of Thanks were introduced in the She Sells Sea Shells update.
- Based on the gifts she gives the player (along with her appearance, and the update that added her), she appears to be based on Mary Anning, a fossil collector, palaeontologist, and dealer who inspired the popular tongue twister "She sells seashells".
- The name "Crabby Hermit" could be a play on Hermit Crab
