Bone Shards are an item obtained by hammering Skeletons. They are used to craft the Saddlehorn.
Downloadable Content[]
In the Reign of Giants DLC, Bone Shards can also be obtained by hammering Bones, destroying Tumbleweeds, attacking Hound Mounds, or as vomited gifts from friendly Catcoons. They are used in several additional crafting recipes, including the Bucket-o-poop, the Rain Hat, the Rain Coat and the Eyebrella.
In the Shipwrecked DLC, Bone Shards can be obtained by digging up X Marks the Spot treasure chests and by Hammering Spoiled Fish. Using a Trawl Net in the Deep Ocean also has a chance to yield Bone Shards. They are used in a variety of additional crafting recipes such as the Snakeskin Hat, the Snakeskin Jacket, the Captain Hat and the Pirate Hat, and can also be used at the Volcano Altar of Snackrifice in Dry Season to delay the next eruption by 4 day segments, or 1/4th of a day.
In the Hamlet DLC, Bone Shards can be obtained by digging through Dung Piles. Pugalisks drop between 22-46 bone shards, between 42-55 Snake Bones and between 1-4 Spoiled Fish which can be hammered into 2 bone shards each.
Don't Starve Together[]
In Don't Starve Together, Bone Shards are dropped after attempting to open the Loot Stash with the Deer Antler, causing Klaus and his two Gem Deer to spawn. Killing a No-Eyed Deer with an Antler has a 50% probability to drop a Bone Shard. Hammering Sea Bones will drop two Bone Shards with a 50% probability for an additional third Bone Shard to drop. In addition, hammering a Spoiled Fish and a Spoiled Fish Morsel will result in a 100% and 50% chance of dropping Bone Shards, respectively. Using Deconstruction Staff on Bone Helm and Bone Armor will yield 10 Bone Shards.
Bone Shards can also be crafted by Wilson if he has "Transmute Icky Ⅲ" unlocked.
