Bernie is a Survival item/mob in Don't Starve Together, which can only be crafted by Willow, but can be used by any character. If a character is insane while Bernie is on the ground, he will begin walking around. While active, Bernie will "taunt" nearby Shadow Creatures, causing them to target him. Bernie can always be picked up, even when active.

Bernie has 1000 Health and will lose 1 durability for each 10 damage dealt to him. When Bernie's durability drops to 0%, he will stop attracting Shadow Creatures. His appearance and icon change to reflect that he is "dead", and examining him will provide a different quote. Using a Sewing Kit on Bernie will restore him to 100% durability.

If Bernie is left dead on the ground for a total of 3 days, he will disintegrate, dropping Beard Hair, Beefalo Wool, and Silk. Picking him up does not reset the decay.

Forge

In forge Bernie plays the same role as he does in the main game drawing aggro from Forge mobs. However he will not attack enemies back. When Bernie loses all his health all monsters will stop attacking and wander to the nearest player. Williow can "revive" bernie just like a normal player to draw aggro again.

Trivia

• Bernie's name is also a double-entendre, as it can be interpreted as "burny".
• Bernie's crafting description, "A familiar face in this mad world," may be a reference to the song Mad World by Tears for Fears (covered by Gary Jules), in which one of the lyrics quote, "All around me are familiar faces".
