Acid Rain is a weather phenomenon exclusive to Don't Starve Together, introduced in the From Beyond updates. It replaces normal rainfall in Caves during Shadow Rift activity, but not in Lunar Grotto and the Ancient Archive.
Acid rain is a more dangerous weather condition compared to normal Rain due to scarce protective equipment and its strong negative impact on the environment. During such rain, the places where the drops come into contact with the ground smoke, showing the harmful corrosive effect of the acid.
Acid rain takes away the durability of certain equipable Items, accelerates the deterioration of perishable items including Food, and causes damage to the player. The negative effect depends on the strength of the rain and is dealt every 1.5 seconds:
- Deals up to 3 damage to the Character.
- Reduces durability of armor with rain protection by 3 (such as Football Helmet, Bone Helm, Bee Queen Crown).
- Reduces the durability of items with rain protection by 3 seconds (such as Raincoat, Eyebrella, Top Hat).
- Removes 1% freshness from perishable items held in inventory.
Players can temporary gain immunity against Acid Rain when using Slimy Salve.
Acid Rain also empowers Batilisks, speeding them up by 25%, increasing their damage by 50%, and changing the loot to Batilisk Wing (50%), Guano (30%), Monster Meat (20%), and Nitre (20%).
Another property is causing underground Ponds to become covered with growths of Nitre, and 3 to 4 units of this resource can be extracted from mining the Nitre Formations. Mushtrees are affected too, getting covered in acid causing the caps to drop with lower freshness.
