News and Announcements
Hi folks!
As announced months ago, the retirement of the Special:Forum feature is getting closer (but no date has been set for this wiki yet). As you may be aware, all Forum content will be migrated over to Discussions before migrating your wiki to the Unified Community Platform. Discussions has recently received a wave of interface improvements to make the feature more comfortable for Forums users, thanks to awesome input from Forums communities and admins.
Here's what going to happen:
When your wiki has Forums content migrated, the transfer process will render the Forum into a read-only state. If Discussions hasn’t already been enabled on your wiki, the process will enable it as Forums goes read-only, so you can continue to communicate while the transfer is ongoing.
While Discussions does not support wikitext, we're using a special converter so that your old Forums posts will look basically the same with the same formatting and templates after they have been migrated, with a few very rare exceptions. Note that editing old Forums posts and comments with wikitext on Discussions will break the formatting.
Additionally, Discussions requires participants to have Fandom accounts. You will not be able to contribute anonymously.
Check this archived thread for some frequently asked questions, but otherwise let us know any questions or comments you may have about this.
Just Updated
Hi there, I'm the new Wiki Manager for the Don't Starve Wiki, taking over from User:Shrev64. I hope everything is running smoothly, but feel free to ask me questions if you have any. My areas of expertise are listed on my profile, along with some examples of things I've done. You can reach me by leaving a message on my wall, on Discord at Moviesign#6611, or by email at Moviesign at fandom.com.
- Update: The vandal in question has been dealt with thanks to the VSTF. Editing has been opened again for everyone.
- Special thanks to PunkBiscuits and SonBiscuits for their help in containing and slowing down the vandal.
Due to recent issues with constant and frequent vandalism, editing for new or anonymous users has been temporarily disabled to tighten security.
This means that it is not possible to make edits or leave comments unless you're logged-in for now. This restriction will be in effect temporarily, but it is not currently known when it will be lifted.
If you are a logged-in user who has been around for at least a week, you won't notice any difference unless you log out. We will attempt to deal with the vandal(s) accordingly and reopen editing for everyone as soon as possible.
For now, if you would like to make edits, contact an established user, including but not limited to admins and moderators.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope you understand we're trying to make sure the wiki's content remains helpful and informative with a proper presentation. If you spot vandalism or other forms of disruptive editing, please do not hesitate to report it.
Dear fellow editors,
you might have noticed that the size of the cast of Don't Starve & Co. has exploded in recent months. With the addition of Wagstaff and Wheeler to the Hamlet: Early Access: Beta Branch, we now have 21 playable characters, and three more are already on their way to DST.
Problem: The {{Quotes}} template is getting too crowded, there is not enough space for all the portraits to fit in a single row, especially on smaller screens and on pages that use the wider {{Food Infobox}} template.
Suggested solution: My proposition would be to add a second row of characters to the {{Quotes}} template. This is quite easy to technically achieve, as demonstrated below.

–Wilson, when examining a Mosquito.

–Willow, when examining a Mosquito.

–Wolfgang, when examining a Mosquito.

–Wendy, when examining a Mosquito.

–WX-78, when examining a Mosquito.

–Wickerbottom, when examining a Mosquito.

–Woodie, when examining a Mosquito.

–Maxwell, when examining a Mosquito.

–Wagstaff, when examining a Mosquito.

–Wigfrid, when examining a Mosquito.

–Webber, when examining a Mosquito.

–Walani, when examining a Mosquito.

–Warly, when examining a Mosquito.

–Woodlegs, when examining a Mosquito.

–Wilba, when examining a Mosquito.

–Wormwood, when examining a Mosquito.

–Wheeler, when examining a Mosquito.

–Winona, when examining a Mosquito.

–Wortox, when examining a Mosquito.
Conclusion: Please let me know what you think! I would like to implement these (or similar) changes to the template as soon as possible, because some pages are looking a bit broken right now.
- MMueck
The new theme is here! Please let us know what you think in the comments below.
As some of you can probably tell, the current theme and layout colours are starting to get old, especially with the Shipwrecked-themed background, which has been in use for longer than it probably should have.
Today, I am excited to announce that a new background has been developed alongside an entirely new theme, a preview of which is to the right, or you can preview it in full-size here. This will give the wiki a brand new and fresh look, that will hopefully be a change for the better.
Understandably, the current layout is becoming iconic of the wiki and is arguably part of what gives it its identity, plus this is a major change that will have an enormous impact. As such, the new theme will not be implemented immediately, instead the face-lift is scheduled for next Sunday, 10th of February. Until then, you may enjoy the current theme in its glorious tan/dark orange palette before it is retired.
However, if you dislike the new layout and oppose its introduction, don't hesitate to say so! If the community is found to have a sufficient opposition, then it shall not be implemented. Currently, everyone who has been part of the layout's discussion has been supportive of its implementation.
If you'd like to have some insight into certain decisions concerning this new design, you may check out the discussion thread about it here.
Thank you, and we hope you like this upcoming face-lift!
F.A.Q.
Would this affect my user experience aside from the colour changes?
- No. The face-lift is not going to change any of the wiki's functionality or navigation. It is purely cosmetic, and will only alter the colour scheme and background.
I'm not really fond of this new theme. Is it possible for me to return to the old theme at my will?
- Yes, but only via Personal CSS or JS, which will get a little technical and may prevent you from receiving potentially crucial layout updates unless you update it manually.
Is this scheme final?
- Right now the preview is the finalized look and there are no plans to alter it, but it is definitely open to change based on community feedback.
Announcing that a new DS Wiki has been created at Gamepedia!
This was done to help reduce the impact of advertisements on user experience. Of course, there will be a lot of questions popping up around the move, so I'm here to answer them and help out if anyone needs anything! Feel free to reply here, message me on the Klei Forums or on either wiki - I check them all!
Possible F.A.Q.
What will happen to this wiki?
- This wiki will remain active and running and can still be used as normal. You are free to decide to view or edit either or both of them. I am personally able to work at both.
What's the difference between the Wikia wiki and the Gamepedia wiki?
- Wikia has ads with much higher impact. I'm sure a lot of you saw them. Gamepedia has ads restricted to the right side and they will never take up space related to articles. However, Gamepedia is not a straight upgrade. Wikia had some features that Gamepedia lacks, such as article comments, but Gamepedia does have some features specific to the site as well. In general, you get a choice:
- A higher quality wiki but with more impactful ads to boot. (Wikia)
- A slightly lower quality wiki with ads that have far less impact. (Gamepedia)
Will the new wiki be only for DST or DS?
- Both. Making separate wikis for DS and DST will be confusing and it is better to just group them under one wiki. Just keep DST changes to entities in a separate section and tag DST Exclusive articles by typing {{DST Exclusive}} at the top.
I am an old contributor at the Wikia wiki with a great edit count and a lot of badges that I felt proud having. What will happen to them? Will I lose them?
- Nothing will happen! Gamepedia has an achievement/badge system as well. You can find a link to a form for preserving your contributions at the top of the site. Just state your Wikia account's name and Gamepedia account's name, and the staff will transfer your contributions and badges in the form of Gamepedia's badges along with your edit count and account history. Your Wikia profile will remain unaffected.
Why does the main page say "We have 21 articles"? Just 21?
- The move process was mostly automated, and as a side effect (or bug, if I may say so), that template can't see pages that haven't been edited at least once while on Gamepedia. All articles are there and can be found through searching. This has no immediate fix as of now, and can only be resolved over time as pages are edited.
If any more frequent questions need answering, I will add them here.
Hope you enjoy the new wiki!
so I found rock area inside a beach, and there is a whole bunch of rocks and flint with 4 gold in between 4 gold magma piles on the left and right. Also if you couldn't guess this is in shipwrecked.
After a prolonged discussion among Admins and with CzechOut, Portable infoboxes have been added to the wiki!
Portable infoboxes work on improving the mobile site's infoboxes while not affecting the desktop site experience, resulting in better infoboxes on phone than before without affecting the desktop site infoboxes. Mobile experience should be improved infobox-wise now. Enjoy!
A new extension - Status, has been added into the wiki. Most users should have noticed the change on their user profile. We will try to optimise the code so that it represent a more real-time status of users.
Below is the description of Status derived from Help:Status.
Status is an extension that allows users to check the status of a user or themselves on their user page.
How does it work?

Status on user page
It is shown in user profile automatically. However it is also possible to add another user's status by input the following codes:
<span data-user-status="USERNAME">placeholder text</span>
USERNAME would be replaced with the intended user whose status is being checked. placeholder text would be replaced with some sort of error message or notice that the script didn't run.
It's recommended that the above code be put into a template for easier use.
Types of Status
Online: This status appears when you have made more than 0 edit but less than 2 edits recently.
Editing: This status appears when you have made more than 1 edit but less than 10 edits recently.
Busy editing: This status appears when you have made more 9 edits recently.
Away: This status appears when you have made no edits recently.
Users should understand that the status may not represent real-time activity level of a user. Programmers are trying their best to optimize the codes.
Customisation
Administrators can modify the the scripts on MediaWiki:Status/code.js easily.
While normal users may copy the script from MediaWiki:Status/code.js into personal common.js (effect on Don't Starve Wiki only) or into personal global.js (effect on every wikia sites). Then modify the scripts according to your preference.

TLDR: You don't need to upload photos in order to add a photo on a page.
- Description
- ExternalImageLoader allows for adding external images to your wiki. It allows you to pull images from external image hosting sites like imgur and embed them on your wiki page just like internal images. This also works with images on other wikis. This might be useful on wikis which don't allow users to upload personal images to the wiki ie. images only used on userpages.
Reminder! Sometimes you have to wait or refresh in order to load the picture.
- Example
- Input the following codes...
{{ExternalImageLoader |url = orig04.deviantart.net/c43a/f/2015/224/b/0/wilson_by_anti_dark_heart-d95bwu7.gif |width = |height = |align = left |alt = Me, doing meh science! |caption = Me, doing meh science! }}

New users must read!
This is for clarification as the old welcome message contains broken links and outdated information. The new message contains many useful resources. It is shown below:

Welcome to Don't Starve Wiki, !
Thanks for your edit to the $1 page. We hope you will continue contributing constructively!
Wait, I forgot to tell you...
- Want to help but don't know where to start? Check our To-do list.
- Take a look at the Manual of Style and Standards. They contain article formats and standards.
- Keep strategy and tip sections to the minimum. We have a Guide page for comprehensive instructions instead.
- Don't upload images randomly. If you want to improve the current version, please upload a new version of the image, instead of uploading another image with different name. Then categorize the file once uploaded (at least in Images, for images).
- Don't use second person pronouns ("you", "your", etc.). Instead, use third person ("the player", singular "they", etc.) and help us write neutral articles without them.
- Need more help and resources? Visit our Community Portal and Forum.
Please leave a message on my message wall if I can help with anything. Thanks! $3

Hey guys!
As most of you probably know, we at Wikia have been working to create a new style of infobox that works on the widest range of portable devices as possible.
We know it's a drag for you to have to do the work yourselves, particularly if some of your more technically minded users are taking a break. That's why I've been tasked with helping you make the transition.
I've already created these new infoboxes, and I want to show you three of your most-used ones now!
{{Item Infobox}}
Non-portable {{Item Infobox}} on left; portable on right.
- Current, non-portable infobox
- Portable infobox
{{Object Infobox}}
Non-portable {{Object Infobox}} on left; portable on right.
- Current, non-portable infobox
- Portable infobox
{{Food Infobox}}
Non-portable {{Item Infobox}} on right; portable on left. Note that the trailing </div> is a pre-existing problem in the non-portable version.
- Portable Infobox
- Current, non-portable infobox
Moving forward
We think these new boxes are a really close match that your desktop readers won't have any problems with — and which your readers on other devices will definitely appreciate. Still, take a good look, and if you see anything you'd like corrected, bring it up in this discussion over the next few days. Since the boxes are a very close match already, though, we're going to go ahead and convert on about 1 May, and then check in next week to help you address any lingering design concerns.
The new tropical themed DLC just came out of early access and is available now for $4.99 USD on Steam, as well as DRM free on GOG and Humble!
As for the wiki, this means that all SW pages can lose the "upcoming feature" templates and SW info can be freely implemented in more templates and pages.
Hope you guys have fun playing.
Hey guys, I discovered something. I tried to use Willow's Lighter along with my raft. I now have a raft that looks like it is on fire. I have a light source along with my boat....
Hi,
There is a crucial information missing in this article, about Dont Starve Together Woodie. When the night with full Moon starts, Woodie will turn to a Beaver (nothing surprising here)
BUT
because its full Moon, the Log meter will start decreasing naturally, and it's pretty fast. If it drops to 0, you lose HPs.
So at first full Moon in Automn, you can just shop all night long to keep you alive, even if it's not effective (the log meter will not reach 100 unless you are cutting trees constantly). And then wait until the morning, when the negative aura disappears, and you can finish the job. Your sanity must be excellent (above 175) before the full Moon.
The Winter's full Moon night is now a real problem for Woodie (I experienced it, and died lol), because Winter night is super long, and so is the negative aura. U can't wait until the morning because you'll get insane and cold.
I think the only way to pass this night is to have perfect sanity and be near a huge and dense forest. When I say huge, its like 3 or 4 times the forest you would cut with Beaver in a normal day. Dense, because u must have the best efficiency to counter that strong aura. I cut the tree and the roots because it's 3 hits each.
I looked over the forums but nobody talked about that. Is there anything I missed? Did anyone ever encountered this situation?
There have been some puzzles about DS made by Klei in the past and it seems like they keep going with DST.
My question is, should we keep them in separate pages depending on the puzzle or group them all in one big "Puzzles" page and list them is subsections?
